Sitji Chou’s interest in art began at an early age and this enthusiasm has carried itself well into his adulthood. After an introductory class for animation in his first year at Emily Carr University in 2007, he decided to abandon his goal of becoming an illustrator because he felt that making one’s illustrations move is infinitely more satisfying than having a static image. Coupling his love for illustration with the narrative possibilities of animation, he aims to create beautifully constructed, thematically interesting films that don’t serve simply to entertain, but to provoke thought. He excitedly completed a bachelor’s degree in media arts in the spring of 2011, and is continuing his path on becoming an animation auteur.
Have you ever seen a giant animation projected on the side of a building? Created through the QuickTrack Program, 4 emerging professional artists were selected as artists-in-residence for a 3-month animation production project utilizing the facilities of Quickdraw Animation Society. These artists were commissioned to create new short animations, receiving mentorship, technical support and access to equipment. We asked them to think GIANT… and they did.
