The MonstroCity By Martin Warszawski
Saturday November 5, various times between 7 and Midnight
Jubilee Auditorium, North Wall (1415 14 Ave NW)
At the LogDrivers Waltz Gala
Inspired by classic monster-in-the city movies, colorful animated monsters inhabit the walls of the Jubilee in this GIANT animation– eating, growling, and proliferating.
Martin Warszawski
With his parents unwilling to buy him a drum set as a child Martin turned to his other love, drawing. He picked up that crayon and drew his little heart out. Shocked by all the ‘drawings’ on their walls Martin’s parents wondered if they should have bought him that drum set after all. Years later, Martin would find himself in art school sketching nudes, spray-painting walls and later discovering animation. Here, he thought, was the golden key to success, riches and lots of women. Martin threw himself into animating from day one and never looked back. Four years, a degree and a handshake on stage later, here he is – a little poorer, not yet successful and with only one girl on his arm. A little anxious, but hopeful, he is currently working diligently to find that golden nugget. Sometimes though, on warm summer nights, Martin dreams of the drum set that never was and is glad that he picked up a crayon instead of a drum stick.
Have you ever seen a giant animation projected on the side of a building? Created through the QuickTrack Program, 4 emerging professional artists were selected as artists-in-residence for a 3-month animation production project utilizing the facilities of Quickdraw Animation Society. These artists were commissioned to create new short animations, receiving mentorship, technical support and access to equipment. We asked them to think GIANT… and they did.
